Interactive Mural for the IOC.
This photographics project highlighted architecture through the use of imagery, typography and other stylistic elements. I chose to look at the structures built for the Olympic games throughout the years.
The mural was created to scale and designed with a specific location in mind.
I decided to include certain years that had particularly unique or renowned architecture. I have always been fascinated by the designs surrounding the Olympics and this was a great opportunity to explore that further.
For this project, I designed a mural for the International Olympic Committee Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. It is a moving video display and is intended to be interactive such that a user can touch a year to receive more information about that Olympics.
Starting in 1964 a pictogram system was created for the Olympics each year. For each year’s imagery, I used some of its pictograms, along with logos, to illustrate its design language. I wanted the architecture to have a slightly more graphic quality with high contrast without losing any key details.
I decided to use Univers for the typography as it has high readability and comes in a variety of weights. The color scheme was challenging, as there are already colors associated with the Olympics and bright graphics in new colors for every games. I wanted to keep it fun and spirited, reflective of the high energy atmosphere
